San Felice

L’edificio attuale della chiesa di San Felice è il risultato di un progetto dell’architetto Fantastici, realizzato nella prima metà del Novecento. Il campanile è del 1922. Le due colonne che sorreggono l’arco del presbiterio sono invece di epoca romana.

Della storia del borgo in età medievale e moderna si hanno scarsissime notizie. Trasformato in residenza e fattoria nel XIX secolo, nel 1991 il borgo è stato interamente restaurato e trasformato in un hotel di lusso, conservandone tuttavia le caratteristiche architettoniche medievali.

Giovanna Morganti, cresciuta a San Felice, oggi gestisce l’azienda vinicola “Podere le Boncie”, situata a poca distanza. Così racconta la vita nel borgo negli anni Settanta: “ho avuto la fortuna di crescere a San Felice. San Felice è stato per me un modello educativo non familiare ma da clan, perché era un piccolo borgo dove tutte le persone lavoravano nell’azienda e il riferimento non era solo la famiglia, ma erano tutti; tutti i bambini giocavano in piazza, la merenda si faceva da una nonna piuttosto che da un’altra, c’era molta vita comunitaria. C’era una scuola elementare che serviva per tutti i bambini degli operai. Diciamo un modello sociale eccezionale. In più c’era questa voglia di crescita, anche con tutti gli errori del momento, di far prosperare questa terra e di dare dignità alla gente che ci lavorava”.

San Felice rappresenta uno dei luoghi più significativi per la storia della Berardenga. In particolare la Pieve di San Felice è ricordata fin dall'anno 714 "baptisterium sancti Felicis", successivamente definita anche "in Avane" e nel 998 San Felice in Pincis e nel 1044  San Felice in Brolio. L'attuale chiesa è il risultato di un rifacimento in stile, effettuato negli anni 20/30 del secolo scorso.

Al catasto del 1320 il villaggio, appellato con il nome della sua Pieve, contava 24 case ed era sede di comunello.

The current structure of the church of San Felice is the result of a design by the architect Fantastici, built in the first half of the 20th century. The bell tower is from 1922. The two columns supporting the arch of the presbytery are from Roman times.

Little is known of the village's medieval and modern history. Transformed into a residence and farm in the 19th century, in 1991 the burg was entirely restored and made into a luxury hotel, but its medieval architectural elements and style were conserved.

Giovanna Morganti, who grew up in San Felice, is now the manager of the “Podere le Boncie” wine estate a short distance away. Of life in the village in the 1970s, she says: “I was lucky enough to grow up in San Felice. For me, it was a sort of clan, a little burg where everybody worked for the estate, and my points of reference weren't just my family, but everybody. All the children would play in the piazza, we'd have afternoon snacks at one grandmother's house or another, there was a great deal of community life. There was an elementary school for the workers' children. Let's say it was an exceptional social model. And moreover, there was this desire to grow - even with all the mistakes that were made at the time - , to make the land prosper and to lend dignity to the people who worked on it.”

San Felice is one of the most important locuses of Berardenga history. In particular, Pieve di San Felice is documented as early as 714 as "baptisterium sancti Felicis", later also defined "in Avane", and in 998 San Felice in Pincis, and in 1044 San Felice in Brolio. The current church is the result of a complete revamping carried out in the 1920s/'30s.

In the 1320 land registry, the village, referred to by the name of its parish church, had 24 houses and was the seat of a common.
